1. Introduction and scope
GolfTracker is a mobile application developed by SabbaSoft, distributed on the Apple App Store and Google Play, compliant with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 as amended by Legislative Decree 101/2018, and the distribution requirements of the respective stores. This notice describes how user data is handled within the application.

The Controller does not collect, receive or access users’ personal data in the ordinary use of the application. The app’s architecture is designed to keep all data exclusively on the user’s device.
3. Architecture: on-device processing
GolfTracker is built on the principle of privacy by design: processing takes place on the device and data resides in the app’s local storage. In particular:
- No data is transmitted to the developer’s servers. GolfTracker has no backend: we do not receive, store or have any way to access your data.
- No account creation is required, nor any email address or credentials.
- We carry out no tracking, profiling, advertising or analytics.
- The app does not access your location, contacts, photos or other data on the device.
The only exception — enabled by you. If you enable automatic cloud backup (§ 7), a copy of your data is saved to your personal iCloud or Google Drive space. Even in that case the copy never passes through any system of ours and is not accessible to us: it travels from your device directly to your cloud space. The feature is off until you turn it on, and you can switch it off at any time from the Profile screen.
4. Data processed locally
Locally, the user can manage:
- Optional profile data: first name, last name, golf club, Handicap Index
- Playing data: rounds, Score Differentials, statistics, HI history
- Preferences: default scoring format, preferred club and tee, language, consents
This data is used exclusively for the operation of the app and remains under the user’s sole control.
5. Crash reporting — Sentry (optional, with consent)
The app integrates the Sentry SDK (Functional Software Inc., sentry.io) for anonymous reporting of crashes and technical errors. This service is activated only if the user gives explicit consent during profile setup or in the settings.
What is sent to Sentry if you consent:
- The error stack trace (technical trace of the crash)
- Device model (e.g. “iPhone 17 Pro” or “Pixel 10”)
- Operating system version (iOS or Android)
- App version
- No personally identifying data (name, email, playing data)
Legal basis: the data subject’s consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Consent can be withdrawn at any time from Profile → Privacy settings → “Crash reporting”.
Sentry acts as a Data Processor pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Sentry’s privacy notice: sentry.io/privacy.
6. In-app purchases and subscriptions
GolfTracker offers optional subscriptions that unlock certain features. The app remains usable in its core features without a subscription.
Payments never pass through us. Purchases are handled entirely by the store you downloaded the app from — the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad, Google Play on Android. Apple and Google act as independent data controllers for payment and billing data, under their respective privacy notices. We do not see, receive or store any data about your card or payment method.
RevenueCat. To determine whether a subscription is active we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States), a subscription management platform. RevenueCat receives:
- an anonymous identifier generated by the platform itself, not linked to your identity and not derived from any of your personal data;
- the transaction data transmitted by the store and the subscription status (active, expired, renewed).
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, phone number, payment data, or any of the rounds or sporting information you enter in the app.
You can view the anonymous identifier associated with your device in the app’s Profile section.
7. Backup, export and data sharing
Manual export. You can export your data in JSON format at any time, from within the app. The resulting file is yours to manage: you can send it via AirDrop or email, save it to iCloud Drive or another service, or keep it wherever you prefer. We do not receive a copy. Once the file leaves the app, it is subject to the terms of the service you store it on.
Automatic cloud backup (optional). The app can keep an up-to-date copy of your data in your personal cloud space, so that if you change or lose your phone you do not lose your archive.
- Where it goes. On iPhone and iPad, into an iCloud container linked to your Apple Account. On Android, into the application’s private folder on Google Drive (appDataFolder): an area reserved for GolfTracker that does not appear among your Drive files and that no other app can access. In both cases the space is yours, not ours.
- It never passes through us. The transfer happens between your device and your cloud space. No server of ours is involved and we cannot read the contents of the backup.
- What it contains. Your profile (name, gender, date of birth, membership number if provided, Handicap Index), your recorded rounds, and the courses and tees you have added manually.
- Format. The file is in readable JSON format and is not encrypted by us. This is a deliberate choice: an encryption key kept on the device would not survive its loss or replacement, and would make the backup unreadable in precisely the situation it exists for. The file is nevertheless protected by your cloud account and by Apple’s and Google’s access controls.
- It is optional. It is offered to you and remains off until you enable it; you can disable it at any time from the Profile screen.
- Consent on Android. The first activation requires your explicit authorisation through Google’s consent screen. GolfTracker requests only the
drive.appdatascope, which grants access exclusively to its own private folder: it cannot see or touch the other files in your Drive.
Apple and Google act as independent data controllers for the storage of data in their respective cloud services, under their own privacy notices.
8. Retention and deletion
Data remains on the device until you remove it. You can:
- delete individual rounds from the app;
- clear the entire archive from the settings;
- uninstall the app, which removes all local data.
The cloud copy, if you enabled it, is deleted as follows:
- Android: when you uninstall the app, Google automatically deletes the application’s private folder on Drive. You can also revoke access at any time from the security settings of your Google account.
- iPhone and iPad: from the system settings, under iCloud, by managing the storage used by individual apps.
Turning the backup off from the Profile screen stops future saves; to remove the copy already stored, follow the steps above.
9. Rights of the data subject
Under Articles 15-22 GDPR, users have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection to processing. For locally stored data, these rights are exercised directly through the app’s features. For any request: info@sabbasoft.it. Users also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority — Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
10. Data processed by Apple and Google
Depending on the store you downloaded the app from, Apple or Google process certain data as independent data controllers, under their own privacy notices and outside our control. This category includes download data, purchase and billing data, and any diagnostics collected by the operating system.
We receive no data from Apple or Google that identifies you.
If you have enabled automatic backup, Apple or Google additionally process, as independent controllers, the copy stored in your cloud space (§ 7).

11. Minors
The app is not intended for users under the age of 14 and does not collect data from minors.
12. Changes to this notice
The Controller reserves the right to update this notice in the event of new features or regulatory changes. Changes are published on this page with an indication of the version and date. App users will receive an in-app notification the first time they open the app after a substantial change, with a request to review the new version.
